Ondřej Vojtěchovský, Visiting Fellowship 2023/24
Biography
I am an assistant professor at the Institute of World History at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. I have worked on the phenomenon of political emigration and refugees to communist Czechoslovakia, especially in my book “From Prague against Tito! Yugoslav Pro-Soviet Emigration in Czechoslovakia” (Czech 2012, Croatian 2016). In the monograph „Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia in the period of late socialism” (together with J. Pelikán, Czech 2021, Croatian 2023), I have studied various aspects of relations between the two socialist federations in the 1970s and 1980s and related social and cultural phenomena. I also deal with the topic of the operation of Yugoslav construction companies and their workers in Czechoslovakia. I am currently collaborating on a project on the crisis in Yugoslavia in the first half of the 1980s from the perspective of members of the central state and party bodies of the Yugoslav Federation.
Motivation for the fellowship
I am currently involved in the project Crisis – Reform – (In)stability. The Yugoslav Socialist System from the Actors’ Perspective, 1980-1986/1987. I would like to use my one-month stay in Ljubljana to work on the chapter, which deals with the discourse of the “crisis” in 1980s Yugoslavia. In addition to the excellent opportunity for concentrated work, I am very happy to take advantage of consultations with my colleagues, and members of the Institute’s staff. During my professional career, I have maintained close contact with some Slovenian colleagues. Therefore, I would like to deepen this cooperation in the future.
Visiting fellowship May 2024
