AFTERNOONS WITH DARIAH: WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO READ?
On Tuesday, 5 May, the Institute of Contemporary History hosted a lecture in the Popoldnevi z DARIAH series entitled “Why Is Reading Truly Essential?”
The lecture was delivered by colleagues from the Slovenian Institute for Adult Education: Assist. Prof. Dr. Petra Javrh, Alenka Štrukelj, and Natalija Žalec, who spoke about reading habits, the promotion of reading, and adult education.
They presented key aspects of adult reading habits, the results of a study on librarians’ reading habits, and various activities aimed at encouraging reading, including family literacy, National Reading Day, the initiative 10 Minutes of Daily Reading, and the Lahko.si 2026 project. Special attention was also given to the educational programme Integrating Reading into Adult Education, which supports the systematic development of reading culture.
Thank you to the speakers and to everyone who joined us!
