Marta Baradić – History on the Edge
On Wednesday, 15 October 2025, the first lecture of the new generation of visiting researchers took place as part of the History on the Edge / Zgodovina na Špici event series.
The lecture was delivered by Marta Baradić, who spoke on the topic A Renewed Look at the Activism of Giuseppina Martinuzzi on the Centenary of Her Death. In her presentation, she outlined the various phases and forms of activism of the Istrian and Triestine intellectual, journalist, and teacher Giuseppina Martinuzzi (1844–1925), whom contemporary studies recognize as one of the most significant socialist and feminist activists in the Northern Adriatic region. She devoted particular attention to Martinuzzi’s nationalist phase, during which she founded and edited the literary journals Pro Patria (1888) and Pro Patria Nostra (1889), shedding light on the process of their creation, editorial policies, and the networks of intellectuals connected with the journals.
The event was held at the Institute of Contemporary History and via Zoom, marking the start of the new season with a new time slot at 3 p.m.
