POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT (m/f)

We invite candidates interested in the opportunity to participate in the project work of the Institute of Contemporary History to apply. The work will be carried out within the framework of the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant project “Brokers of Non-Alignment: Biographical and Network Approaches to the Making of the Third World (Brokers-of-NAM)” (ID: 101220974, DOI: 10.3030/101220974). We are seeking a motivated researcher to conduct a case study on a key figure of the Non-Aligned Movement from Lebanon—Kamal Jumblatt—at the Institute of Contemporary History as part of the project. We are looking for candidates who are fluent in English and French and have a working knowledge of Arabic.
In addition to the general requirements set forth in labor law regulations, candidates applying for this position must meet the following criteria:
- at least a Doctoral degree (PhD),
- appointment to at least the research title of “Postdoctoral Research Assistant / Asistent z doktoratom”,
- required work experience: 3 years.
Job description and duties:
- participation in scientific research projects,
- independent research and professional work and publication of findings,
- participation in performing demanding tasks,
- collective work and analysis in the framework of a group;
- publishing the results of professional work and research,
- tother tasks as directed by the director or immediate supervisor.
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- fluent in Arabic with knowledge of Lebanese standard;
- advanced knowledge of French;
- field experience in Lebanon;
- academic publications in internationally recognized journals;
- an interest in digital humanities and digital methods;
- experience coordinating academic publications.
The application for the open position must include:
- a written statement from the candidate confirming that they meet the educational requirements, which must specify the degree/level and field of study, as well as the exact date and institution where the degree was obtained;
- a written statement regarding appointment to a research or teaching title, which must demonstrate fulfillment of the requirement regarding the required research title; in the statement, the candidate shall specify the valid research title, the date of appointment to the research title, and the research organization that awarded the research title,
- a written statement of previous positions, demonstrating that the candidate meets the requirement regarding the required work experience; In the statement, the candidate shall specify the start and end dates of position and briefly describe the work and the level of difficulty of the work performed.
Instead of a statement regarding the fulfillment of the required educational qualifications, the candidate may submit a photocopy of a document certifying the level and field of education.
Instead of a statement regarding appointment to a research title, the candidate may submit a written statement confirming that they meet the requirements for appointment to the research title of Postdoctoral Research Assistant. For the purpose of assessing research competence, the candidate shall attach copies of the five most significant scientific research works in which the candidate is the first or lead author—in accordance with the Rules on Research Titles (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, Nos. 126/08, 41/09, 55/11, 80/12, 4/13 – corr., 5/17, 31/17, 7/19, and 186/21 – ZZrID).
It is desirable that the candidate also submit a motivation letter and CV. In the CV, in addition to formal education, the candidate should also list previous work experience and other knowledge and skills acquired. It is recommended that the candidate highlight research experience and research work, which will give them an advantage in the selection process.
Only timely and complete applications will be considered. The selection process, in which candidates who meet the requirements for the position will be considered, will be conducted based on a review of the submitted documentation.
The selected candidate will be offered a fixed-term employment contract until October 30, 2027, on a full-time basis (40 hours/week). The selected candidate will work at the Institute of Contemporary History (Privoz 11, Ljubljana) or, in accordance with the employment contract, from home.
