DR BOJAN GODEŠA AND DR JURE GAŠPARIČ ON SLEDI ČASA
Our colleagues Dr Bojan Godeša and Dr Jure Gašparič, appeared on RTV SLO’s programme Sledi časa.
The episode focused on the political situation of the late 1930s, when a new geopolitical reality was clearly beginning to take shape in Europe. The Versailles peace order, which had defined the period after the First World War, was losing its influence, the stability of Western liberal democracies was increasingly being called into question, and new political forces were beginning to shape a different order for the European continent.
In this context, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia found itself in an extremely difficult position, while the situation in the Slovene lands was even more uncertain. In the episode, Dr Bojan Godeša and Dr Jure Gašparič shed light on how Slovene bourgeois politics, under pressure from external forces and in the pursuit of political survival, attempted to adapt to the new circumstances and secure the most favourable possible position for the Slovene population.
The episode addresses questions of how Slovene political actors approached these challenges, how successful they were in their efforts, and why, in certain circumstances, they saw the occupiers as possible interlocutors in preserving Slovene autonomy.
The episode was prepared by Žiga Volf Stepančič.
