INVITATION TO A SERIES OF SHORT LECTURES ENTITLED BEYOND PASTORAL CARE: CLERGY, SOCIETY, AND POPULAR AGENCY IN THE LATE HABSBURG EMPIRE
You are kindly invited to a series of short lectures entitled Beyond Pastoral Care: Clergy, Society, and Popular Agency in the Late Habsburg Empire, which will take place on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, from 11:00 to 13:00 at the Institute of Contemporary History.
The event will feature a lecture by guest historian Assist. Prof. Dr. Tamara Scheer from the University of Innsbruck. She will be joined by researchers from the Institute of Contemporary History, Dr. Jan Bernot and Dr. Oliver Pejić.
Based on various case studies, the speakers will discuss the relationships between the clergy and local rural communities in the late Habsburg Monarchy. The lectures will be followed by a discussion on the relevance and usefulness of such sources for researching broader political, cultural, and social-historical questions of the period.
The discussion will be held in English and moderated by Prof. Dr. Rok Stergar from the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.
