ADVERTISEMENTS FROM SLOVENSKI NAROD (1868–1914): INTRODUCING A CORPUS AND WEB-BASED VIEWER
On Tuesday, 2 June 2026, our colleague Filip Dobranič gave a presentation of a collection of more than 350,000 advertising clippings from the newspaper Slovenski narod (1868–1914).
The presentation offered insights into a large-scale digital humanities project that enables the study of advertising, consumer culture, and the language of persuasion in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In addition to presenting initial analyses of advertising patterns, Filip also demonstrated a web-based interface that allows researchers and the wider public to browse and explore the material with ease.
The event highlighted how digital methods can open new possibilities for researching historical newspapers and other archival sources.
In this post, we are sharing photo highlights.
