DR IVAN SMILJANIĆ AT THE UNDISCIPLINED ETHNOBOTANY – SOCIETY FOR ETHNOBOTANY ANNUAL CONGRESS 2026

In early June, our colleague Dr Ivan Smiljanić participated in the annual international conference of the Society for Ethnobotany in Montpellier, France.

As part of his postdoctoral project on the planting of memorial trees in Slovenia, he presented the paper “Planting Patriotism: Political Memorial Trees in Slovenia from Austria-Hungary to Today”, exploring the history of political memorial trees from the Austro-Hungarian period to the present day.

The conference took place in the pleasant setting of Montpellier’s renowned botanical garden and provided an opportunity to establish new connections beyond the field of history. Participants discussed past and present relationships between humans and nature, while the programme also included a truffle-harvesting demonstration.

SARA ŠIFRAR KRAJNIK IN VIENNA

Our colleague Sara Šifrar Krajnik presented her doctoral research in June at the ZUG-minisymposium at BOKU University. During her stay in Vienna, she also conducted additional archival research at the Österreichisches Staatsarchiv, collecting and analyzing sources that will contribute to the further development of her doctoral project.
