JOSÉ LUIS AGUILAR LÓPEZ-BARAJAS – HISTORY ON THE EDGE
On 10 June 2026, as part of the History on the Edge lecture series, we hosted a new lecture at the Institute of Contemporary History.
In his presentation, “Socializing Medicine, Making Medicine Social: East-Central Europe, Socialist Expertise and Cold War Knowledge Circulation”, José Luis Aguilar López-Barajas explored the role of socialist East-Central Europe in the production and international circulation of medical knowledge during the Cold War.
Particular attention was given to the ways experts from socialist countries incorporated social and gender dimensions into medicine, and how their approaches influenced fields such as pediatrics, medical sociology, and mental health research.
The event was held in English, both at the Institute and via Zoom. The event was moderated by Victor Strazzeri.
The full lecture will soon be available on our SIstory Info YouTube channel.
In this post, we are sharing photo highlights.
