Visiting fellowship April 2024
Motivation
During the fellowship, I will focus on the medical aspect of my broader project that explores the role of the memory and legacies of the People’s Liberation War in exchanges between Yugoslavia and anti-colonial liberation movements during the Cold War. I am focusing on Yugoslav medical internationalism during decolonisation as directly linked to the understanding of the conditions and challenges of anti-colonial wars as similar to the People’s Liberation War in Yugoslavia. Furthermore, I examine medical assistance to the anti-colonial struggle and post-colonial states as related to the wartime and postwar experiences of military medicine, care for the wounded fighters and creating public health structures dedicated to rehabilitation of the Partisans with war-related disability. I will use my stay in Ljubljana to study published sources and relevant literature in the National Library and finalise the first draft of a journal article about Yugoslavia’s medical assistance during decolonisation.
