Visiting Fellowship 2026/27

Matías Figal, Mg.

I am a Lic. in Sociology (University of Buenos Aires) and I hold a Master’s degree in International Political Sociology (National University of Tres de Febrero). I am finishing my PhD in Social Sciences (University of Buenos Aires).

I was a National Scientific and Technical Research Council (Argentina) doctoral fellow, first based in the Center for Genocide Studies (National University of Tres de Febrero) and then in the Center for Slavic and Chinese Studies (National University of San Martín).

Currently, I teach a seminar on the history of Yugoslavia at the University of Salvador (in Buenos Aires) and I am an assistant researcher in the Center for Hungarian Studies (National University of Tres de Febrero). Before that, I was affiliated with the Department of Russian History (University of Buenos Aires) and I taught a course on memory politics in the former Yugoslavia at the National University of La Pampa.

My research focuses on official narratives about the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992-1995). I investigate the prosecution of war crimes, commemorative practices, the figure of war veterans, legislative declarations and laws related to the conflict, and certain aspects of the state-building process.

Statement of interest:

The INZ’s Visiting Fellowship Program offers an opportunity for me to get familiarized with digital tools and approaches, in order to gain new insights which I seek to integrate into my work.

Given the topics and sources of my research, I am particularly interested in being involved with the ParlaMint and ARENAS projects, and to learn more about their methodologies, analysis, and applications.

Of course, I would also like to contribute in any possible way with my colleagues in the Institute, and I hope that the stay in Ljubljana will lead to further collaborations in the future.
