Patryk Krupiński

Patryk Krupiński (1999), M.A., PhD student at the Tadeusz Manteuffel Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences and a member of the Department of the History of Ideas and the History of the Intelligentsia in the 19th and 20th Centuries. He obtained a master’s degree in history (2023) and a bachelor’s degree in history (2021) and philosophy (2024) as a student of the Interdisciplinary Individual Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

Currently, under the supervision of Ivan Sablin from the University of Heidelberg and Piotr Kuligowski from the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences, he is preparing a doctoral thesis: Aggressor – Traitor – Ally. Józef Piłsudski in Contemporary Discourses of Eastern Europe concerning contemporary interpretations of Józef Piłsudski in Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine, as part of the research project “The Aggressor: Self-Perception and External Perception of an Actor Between Nations”.

The discretisation project examines textual representations of Józef Piłsudski and the construction of narratives about him in selected Eastern European contexts: Belarus, Lithuania, and Ukraine. It adopts a comparative perspective and focuses on discourses articulated in texts produced from the 1980s to the present. In particular, it demonstrates the entanglement of narratives about the past and the present, their reciprocal influence, and the ways in which history is mobilized to serve specific political, cultural, and ideological purposes.

In his free time he returns to the topics of Polish interwar intellectual history and the Workers’ Councils in 1917-1919.
