Research equipment – Optical scanner for capturing analogue sources
The optical scanner is designed for capturing and digitising sensitive and other analogue sources (e.g. archival material, printed documents, periodicals), with an emphasis on the safe handling of materials and high-quality digital images for further research processing. It is primarily used by researchers in the field of digital humanities (especially in research on contemporary Slovenian history, various studies, political science and anthropological content), but when capacity allows, it can also be made available to other users.
Key features of the equipment:
- Zeutschel optical scanner (well-established in archives, libraries and research institutions)
- vertical optical capture, which reduces mechanical stress on the material and thus the risk of damage
- high scanning speed and high resolution for producing high-quality digital reproductions
- the option of simultaneous storage in multiple formats and support for optical character recognition (OCR) for further computer processing and the creation of research databases
Use and access:
The scanner can be used subject to equipment availability and in agreement with the authorised contact person for research equipment (Robert Vurušič, robert.vurusic@inz.si). Priority is given to projects and tasks related to the digitisation and research use of cultural heritage and the development of digital humanities approaches.
