Kalliopi Geronymaki, PhD

Kalliopi Geronymaki is a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Florence. She is member of the five-year ERC Advanced Grant ‘Humanitarianism and Mediterranean Europe: A Transnational and Comparative History (1945-1990)’. Kalliopi holds a PhD in contemporary agricultural history from the European University Institute, Florence, with a focus on the early impact of the European Common Agricultural Policy on French, Italian and Greek farming sectors. Her articles on the history of European agriculture, the Cyprus issue and the postwar history of Greek humanitarianism have been published by DeGruyter, Berghahn Books, the International History Review and European History Review, among others. She coedited the special issue Humanitarianism in Times of Democratic Transition: Perspectives from Southern Europe (Journal of Humanitarian Affairs, 8:1, 2026 with Grazia Sciacchitano and Ana Guardião), as well as the collective volume Agricultural Societies in Greece (19th-20th century): Crises, Transitions, Adaptations and State Intervention (forthcoming Assini Publishers, 2027, with George Gassias and Dimitris Angelis-Dimakis).
Statement of interest :
During my visiting fellowship, I will collaborate with Dr. Agustín Cosovschi and his research team in the framework of the ERC Grant ‘Brokers of Non-Alignment: Biographical and Network Approaches to the Making of the Third World’. This engagement will enable me to consider previously overlooked aspects of the Cyprus issue and the history of decolonisation. Working with Dr. Cosovschi, will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the development of multilateral Cypriot diplomacy from the perspective of lesser-known actors, policies and practices that emerged within and beyond the NAM milieu. The aim of this collaboration is to address the Cyprus question through a combined methodological toolkit of transnational, biographical and digital history in the future.
Furthermore, viewing the INZ as an emerging hub for the development of digital history, I will be in touch the Centre of Digital Humanities. I am equally drawn to the History on the Edge lectures and INZ’s library collection, as I aim to explore the bibliography on the topics of the Mediterranean Cold War and the role of Yugoslav diplomacy in postcolonial Cyprus.
