Statement of interest
This Fellowship will enable archival and interview research in Ljubljana for my projected book Yugoslavia and the Global South in the Long 1970s: exploring the contradictions of decolonial solidarity. The book focuses on the intermestic politics – defined as the blurring of the distinction between internal and external politics – of socialist Yugoslavia roughly between the 1968 student unrest and the death of Tito in 1980. The book continues my interest in the history of socialist Yugoslavia, its economic, political, social, and cultural imaginaries and, in particular, its changing relationship with the Global South not least through the Non-Aligned Movement. The Fellowship will also facilitate research collaboration on the theme of global solidarities in the 1945-1991 period, with a particular focus on the Non-Aligned Movement and on workers and trades unions and allow for the presentation of my book on The New International Economic Order.
