Statement of interest
My stay at the Institute for Contemporary History in Ljubljana coincides with a six-month period of study leave at the University of Glasgow. During this time, I hope to advance research and writing on my second book project, tentatively entitled ‘The Elusive Search for a Third Way: the British Left and Yugoslavia from the Second World War to the Kosovo War’. Using my stay in Ljubljana, I will consult Yugoslav-era archives and present my ongoing work to interested audiences. Having co-curated an online exhibition to mark the 75th anniversary of the introduction of self-management in Yugoslavia (fabrikeradnicima.com), I hope to extend this work by working with colleagues at the institute to develop a project linking past and present historical narratives about self-management with the story of its dismantling, industrial heritage and post-Yugoslav memory regimes.
