Željka Oparnica, PhD
Research Fellow
Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade
Visiting Fellowship 2025/26 (October 1, 2025 -November 1, 2025)
I am a Research Fellow at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade. Previously I was a Rome Fellow at the British School at Rome and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Historical Research at the University of London. I have received my PhD in History from Birkbeck College, University of London, where I have defended a thesis on Sephardi politics in the Balkans in the first half of the twentieth century. I have since worked on a project that aims to compare and contrast different political minorities or groups that have contested the status quo in the Yugoslav Kingdom, namely irredentists, unions, the student movement, and refugees.
Statement of interest
I see my stay at the INZ as an opportunity to enrich my case studies through research in archives and libraries, but also a chance to engage with the intellectual life at the institute, learn from my colleagues, and enhance my Slovenian. I hope my stay will foster future collaboration.
