Based on archival collections on social care of the People’s Republic of Slovenia and data of the Ljubljana City People’s Committee, the author analyses measures that the state and society developed and implemented to improve the overall living conditions of vulnerable persons and groups after the Second World War. She presents possibilities and forms of providing social protection to adults, youth, and children in need at the time when the war-ravaged and financially drained state endeavoured to improve the quality of life through the development of broadly based forms of social care and appropriate infrastructure.
