Conference Rural History 2025 in Coimbra
From 9 to 12 September 2025, the 7th Biennial Conference of the European Rural History Organisation (EURHO): Rural History 2025 took place in Coimbra, Portugal, hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra.
Researchers from the Institute of Contemporary History participated in various thematic panels, contributing to an in-depth discussion of the economic, social, and cultural dimensions of rural history.
In the panel Economic nationalism and economic development of rural areas in the 19th and 20th centuries in Central and Southeastern Europe, organized by Dr. Nataša Henig Miščič and Dr. Janja Sedlaček, the following papers were presented:
- Dr. Ivan Smiljanič: Economic nationalism as a cause of financial failure in Slovenian rural areas from late 19th century to the Second World War
- Dr. Nataša Henig Miščič: A comparative study of financial networks in the shadow of economic nationalism in rural areas of the Carniola province and Básc-Bodrog county before 1918
In the panel Work and gender, young researcher Nina Ošep, together with young researcher Brina Kotar (Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana), presented the paper Between the hoe and the judgments: the ideal of the farm servantmaid in 19th century Styria and Carniola.
The panel Rural cooperatives in East Central and South-Eastern Europe in the interwar period: growing influence of national politics and simultaneous internationalization of the cooperative movement was chaired by Dr. Žarko Lazarević.
In the panel Peasant women in socialist Europe: diverse realities and experiences 1, co-organized by Dr. Žarko Lazarević and Dr. Janja Sedlaček, Dr. Janja Sedlaček presented the paper Stratification and inequalities among peasant women in socialist Slovenia.
In the panel Peasant women in socialist Europe: diverse realities and experiences 2, also co-organized by Dr. Žarko Lazarević and Dr. Janja Sedlaček, Dr. Marta Rendla presented the paper Agricultural and household extension service in the Slovenian part of socialist Yugoslavia.
