MARKO ZAJC ON THE HISTORY OF DEMOCRACY IN A SPECIAL ISSUE OF MLADINA
How have ideas about democracy and its meaning evolved over the centuries? What is the connection between democracy, republicanism, and anti-fascism, and how can history help us understand democratic society today?
Our colleague, historian Dr Marko Zajc, discussed the development of democracy in Slovenia and around the world, as well as its relationship with anti-fascism, in a special history issue of Mladina magazine titled “The Struggle for Democracy: A History of Struggles for Democracy.”
In the interview “Without Utopia, There Is No Democracy,” conducted by Jure Trampuš, he reflects on the historical roots of democracy, how its meaning has changed over the centuries, and the relationship between democracy, republicanism, and social change.
The conversation also raises questions about how we understand democracy today and why looking to the past is essential to understanding it.
The interview is available in the special issue of Mladina magazine dedicated to the history of struggles for democracy.
