INZ EXCURSION TO MARIBOR

On Tuesday, 21 April 2026, colleagues from the Institute of Contemporary History took part in a professional excursion to Maribor.

Under the guidance of Barbara and Jana, we first explored the Tezno underground tunnels, learning about this extensive subterranean system and its role in industrial and wartime history. More: https://rovi-tezno.si/

This was followed by a guided tour of Maribor, where David led us through the city and introduced its key historical and cultural highlights.

We concluded the excursion at the Stalag XVIII-D Museum of the International Research Centre of the Second World War (MRC Maribor), where our colleague Daniel Siter guided us through the exhibition dedicated to the Nazi prisoner-of-war camp Stalag XVIII-D. The exhibition provides a comprehensive insight into the functioning of the camp, the living conditions of prisoners of various nationalities, forced labour, and the broader context of the Nazi camp system. It also places special emphasis on individual stories and the importance of preserving the memory of this significant yet often overlooked chapter of Maribor’s history. The excursion was an excellent opportunity to deepen our knowledge, exchange ideas, and connect outside the usual work environment.
