The Socialist and Neoliberal “New Man”: The Post-Revolutionary Discursive Images in Czechoslovakia (1948 and 1989)
This paper examines the contemporary ambitions and conceptual frameworks regarding the transformation of society and the individual in the periods following the 1948 February coup and the 1989 Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia. By employing the concept of the “New Man,” it compares the primary features of these discursive images. Methodologically, the study also draws upon the concept of revolutionary culture. The analysis suggests that although these two pivotal events established divergent political, social, and cultural systems, their underlying structural patterns remained remarkably similar.
Everyone is welcome!
