2022 Public Call for Applications for Junior Researcher Positions
In accordance with Article 27 of the Act of Recipient of Stable Financing – Institute of Contemporary History (hereinafter: the Act) and the General Act on the Stable Financing of Research Activity (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, no. 87/22), the Institute of Contemporary History, Privoz 11, Ljubljana, Slovenia, hereby announces the
2022 Public Call for Applications for Junior Researcher Positions
The subject of this public call is the selection of junior researcher that will start their doctoral training programs with their selected mentor in 2022 in the following research field:
Historiography:
- Mentor: dr. Marko Zajc
- Research programme: Political history
- Possible research topics:
- Political thought (19th, 20th century) with an emphasis on Slovenian politics;
- Yugoslav socialist self-management and politics from below;
- Post-1990 political history of SEE and CEE with an emphasis on Slovenia.
Junior researcher applicants must meet the following requirements:
- They have not yet completed a doctoral program or been awarded a doctoral degree;
- They have never been employed as junior researchers;
- They have a second-cycle (master’s) degree or a comparable degree from a university abroad;
- Their grade point average in the second-cycle program is at least 8.00 (including their master’s thesis grade);
- No more than four years have passed since the end of their second-cycle degree program or the acquisition of a degree that corresponds to the degree obtained in a second-cycle degree program and, under the law governing the Slovenian qualifications framework, is classified as level 8, or since the end of a comparable academic program completed abroad (the year of graduation). If the applicant took parental leave, this period can be extended by the period of the applicant’s justified absence, whereas for other types of justified absence specified in the health insurance regulations it can be extended at most by the period of the justified absence only if the absence was continuous and lasted longer than six months;
The applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Grade point average in a second-cycle program or an academic program that meets the requirements for enrolment in a doctoral program;
- Awards or other recognitions received (0.50 points each);
- Research articles published (up to 1.00 point for authorship or a proportional part for co-authorship);
- Participation in research projects (up to 3.00 points);
- Applicant interview assessment (up to 30.00 points). The minimum score for the interview with the candidate is 10 points. Applicants for junior researchers who do not exceed the minimum score will be rejected.
The application for junior researcher position should contain:
- the application form and three statements of the candidate (see under »Annexes« below)
- proof of education:
- photocopy of the diploma (diploma VII/2nd Bologna cycle) or a statement that the candidate will graduate or nostrificate the diploma by and including 15 September 2022 (documentation must be submitted to the Institute of Contemporary History by this date);
- proof of grade point average of all exams and laboratory work for undergraduate study of the Bologna cycle (excluding diploma work grade), the statement must be accompanied by a confirmation of the educational institution;
- if the Master’s degree is completed – please submit proof;
- if already enrolled in a doctoral study – please submit proof;
- awards and recognitions received – please submit proof;
- published scientific articles, including a statement of whether author or co-author (along with what proportion of the work the candidate carried out) – include a reference from COBISS or copies of articles;
- any previous participation in research work – please include a detailed description of this work along with any applicable references;
Junior researcher is eligible for funding if the following conditions are met:
- is enrolled in a doctoral study program at the University of Primorska in Koper (Faculty of Humanities) or considers to enrol by the beginning of the junior researcher position. The time frame for the application for the doctoral study programme at the University of Primorska in Koper is September 22, 2022, to September 23, 2022.
- is elected to a research title and entered in the register of researchers;
- is full-time employed at the Institute of Contemporary History;
- is a member of the same program group as his/her mentor.
The planned start of financing of junior researchers is October 1, 2022. Training of junior researchers are financed up to receiving the PhD title, for a maximum of four years.
The application must arrive at the Institute of Contemporary History (Privoz 11, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia) by 2 pm on September 5th, 2022, regardless of how it is sent. Envelope must be labeled in Slovenian: »Razpis za MR – Ne odpiraj – javni razpis za kandidate za mlade raziskovalce v letu 2022«.
Institute of Contemporary History will complete its selection by September 15th, 2022.
Interviews with the applicants are expected to take place from September 7th to September 14th, 2022.
