“To Forge a More Just and Happier Life”: Insights from the History of Feminism and Women’s Rights in East Central Europe

You are kindly invited to the event “To Forge a More Just and Happier Life”: Insights from the History of Feminism and Women’s Rights in East Central Europe which will take place on Tuesday, 11 February 2025 at 15:30, at the INZ.

This event marks the publication of Texts and Contexts from the History of Feminism and Women’s Rights: East Central Europe, Second Half of the Twentieth Century (CEU Press, 2024), edited by Zsófia Lóránd, Adela Hîncu, Jovana Mihajlović Trbovc, and Katarzyna Stańczak-Wiślicz, an open-access volume that aims to recover, contextualize, and make accessible over one hundred sources that speak to the issues of women’s emancipation, economic inequality, war, violence against women, reproductive rights, or sexuality, among others. Together with authors Isidora Grubački and Manca G. Renko, the editors will discuss how the volume came together, the process of writing biographies and contextualizations for the sources, and how to carry further its insights into research, teaching, and activism.

As part of the event, Katarzyna Stańczak-Wiślicz will also introduce the ongoing project “We Change the World: Feminist Movements in Poland (1980–2004),” funded by the Chanel Foundation and hosted by the Women’s Archive (Archiwum Kobiet) at the Institute of Literary Research, Polish Academy of Sciences (IBL PAN).

The event will conclude with an informal discussion led by Nina Vodopivec about the Slovenian chapter of the International Federation of Research in Women’s History. The discussion will be held in English and Slovene.
