International Scientific Conference: Economy in the Europe and the Balkans (from the Middle Ages to the modern times)
On 30 and 31 October 2025, Historical Institute Belgrade hosted the International Scientific Conference “Economy in Europe and the Balkans (from the Middle Ages to the Modern Times).”
The conference brought together researchers from across the region to discuss long-term economic developments, connections, and transformations in Europe and the Balkans from medieval to modern times.
Our colleagues Nataša Henig Miščič presented “The Role and Perception of ‘Foreign’ Capital before World War I: A Case Study of Financial Institutions in Ljubljana” and Ivan Smiljanić presented “Bankruptcies and Financial Scandals in Slovenia during the Austro-Hungarian Empire.”
We’re sharing a few photo highlights from the conference!
