The Institute of Contemporary History announces a vacancy for the position of
ASSISTANT WITH A DOCTORATE (m/f)

We invite candidates who are interested in participating in the project work of the Institute of Contemporary History to apply. The work will be carried out within the framework of the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant research project “Brokers of Non-Alignment: Biographical and Network Approaches to the Making of the Third World (Brokers-of-NAM)” (ID: 101220974, DOI: 10.3030/101220974). We are looking for a motivated colleague who will be responsible for the research implementation of the project as a research coordinator at the Institute of Contemporary History. We are looking for candidates who are excellent communicators – both verbally and in writing, in English and preferably also in French.
In addition to the general conditions set out in labor law regulations, candidates applying for the position must meet the following requirements:
- at least a PhD (previous) or 3rd Bologna degree,
- election to at least the research title of “Assistant with a doctorate,”
- Required work experience: 3 years.
Job description and tasks:
- participation in scientific research projects,
- independent research and professional work and publication of findings,
- participation in demanding tasks,
- publishing the results of professional work and research,
- other tasks as instructed by the director or immediate supervisor.
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- international work experience in research organizations;
- experience in participating in international projects;
- experience in organizing international scientific conferences and workshops;
- experience in editorial work in an international group of researchers;
- experience in disseminating academic results through social media technologies;
- knowledge of multilingual research in archives in different countries.
Applications for the vacancy must include:
- a written statement by the candidate confirming that they meet the educational requirements, specifying the level and field of education, as well as the exact date and institution where the education was obtained;
- a written statement of appointment to a research or teaching title, indicating that the candidate meets the requirement for the required research title; in the statement, the candidate shall indicate the valid research title, the date of appointment to the research title, and the research organization that awarded the research title,
- a written statement on previous employment, showing that the candidate meets the requirement for the required work experience; in the statement, the candidate shall indicate the date of commencement and termination of employment with each employer and briefly describe the work and level of complexity of the work performed for that employer.
Instead of a statement confirming that they meet the requirement regarding the required education, candidates may attach a photocopy of a document proving the level/degree and field/area of education.
Instead of a statement of election to a research title, candidates may attach a written statement of fulfillment of the conditions for election to the scientific title of research associate, as specified in the Rules on Research Titles (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, Nos. 126/08, 41/09, 55/11, 80/12, 4/13 – corr., 5/17, 31/17, 7/19, and 186/21 – ZZrID). For the purpose of assessing their research abilities, candidates should attach copies of their five most important scientific research works, where they are the first or lead author.
It is desirable that the candidate also attach a short curriculum vitae to the application, in which, in addition to formal education, they also list their previous work experience and other knowledge and skills they have acquired. It is desirable that the candidate highlight their research experience and research work, which will give them an advantage in the selection process.
Only timely and complete applications will be considered. The selection process, in which candidates who meet the requirements for the position will be ranked, will be based on a review of the documentation received.
The selected candidate will be offered a fixed-term employment contract until October 31, 2029, with reduced working hours (8 hours/week). The selected candidate will work at the Institute of Contemporary History (Privoz 11, Ljubljana).
