ZACHARY MAZUR – HISTORY ON THE EDGE
On Wednesday, 10 December 2025, the Institute of Contemporary History hosted a new lecture in the History on the Edge series.
The lecture was delivered by Zachary Mazur, who presented “Beyond the Balance Sheet: A Qualitative Analysis of Monetary Trust in Interwar Poland.”
He highlighted the importance of trust and the social meaning of money in the introduction of the Polish złoty in 1924. Drawing on sociological and behavioural approaches, he explained how political contexts, expectations about the future, and cultural mechanisms shape the acceptance of a new currency. He also discussed the challenges of the postwar monetary chaos and the role of Władysław Grabski in implementing fiscal and financial reforms that stabilised the monetary system.
The lecture, held in English, took place at the ICH premises and via Zoom.
