HISTORY ON THE EDGE – ŽELJKA OPARNICA
On Wednesday, 29 October 2025, the Institute of Contemporary History hosted a new lecture in the History on the Edge series. Željka Oparnica delivered a talk titled:
The Exception to Passivity: Student Movement and Minority Politics in Interwar Yugoslavia.
The lecture highlighted the highly active interwar student movement, its political engagement, social and ideological dimensions, and its complex relationship with the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. Particular attention was given to how the movement functioned within broader minority politics and why its impact was significant yet ultimately limited.
The lecture, delivered in English, took place at the Institute and via Zoom. The new season of lectures is held at 3 p.m., with attendees joining in person invited for coffee 20 minutes before the start.
