Yugoslavia and Cambodia: Entangled Histories of Non-Alignment
This presentation asks how Yugoslav and Cambodian political histories became entangled across multiple levels and how transnational encounters co-produced social histories of labor and education through Yugoslav companies’ workforces in Cambodia and Cambodian students in Yugoslavia. It further examines the visual practices that shaped both official and private imaginaries of non-alignment, as well as the forms of cultural production emerging from these exchanges. Bringing together political, social, economic, and cultural history, it is part of a project that offers the first systematic investigation of Yugoslav–Cambodian relations and their articulation within the Non-Aligned Movement, contributing to a decentered history of the Cold War.
